The legend of the cold wave at the Soundedit Festival! The Opposition breaks the silence with a new album “Somewhere in Between”. The album features eleven new songs, and the band was joined by a new bassist – Bernard Husbands. The songs are a nod to the past, but are also very focused on the present. The band will play in Łódź on October 26 (Friday) at Wytwórnia Club.

Ever since the Brits released their first LP (1981), they have gone through a rich and extremely winding career in the music industry. Mark Long, Ralph Hall, Marcus Bell and fourth “member” Kenny Jones produced two self-financed, independent albums – “Breaking the Silence” and “Intimacy” – finding an audience in Europe. Their music was and still is described as a combination of genres: cold wave, new wave, post punk and new floyd. The fiercely independent The Opposition toured extensively throughout Europe.

In May 1984, they released “Promises”, their first album for a major label – Charisma Records. Its success gave them an opportunity to present uncompromising, fervent concerts in Great Britain, USA and South Africa. During this neverending tour, the musicians released their next record – “Empire Days” in 1985. The band took a break until 1990, when they released “Blue Alice Blue” with a new line-up, followed three years later by “War Begins At Home”. It meant more gigs, more fans and more fame. In 1990, The Opposition appeared in Poland for the first time. The group’s tracks were listed on the Polish Radio Three Chart. Marcus Bell established cooperation with the Polish group Mancu. He was the music producer of Mancu’s second record “Twój Wstyd” in 1994, and guested on it.

The band entered the new millenium with “Blinder” (2003). After the untimely death of Marcus Bell (2014), the other members of the band met in the recording studio to “make some noise”. They liked this “noise” so much, that it made them wonder why they stopped playing. When a new bassist joined them, it turned out that the artists no longer participate in some aimless artistic brawl, and recorded the material for a complete new album. Was it a kind of bereavement therapy after losing a friend? Maybe. But the new tracks sound fresh, modern and will certainly be the backbone of the repertoire during their show.

Their new album “Somewhere in Between” is released on Aztec Musique and distributed by PIAS. At the same time, “Breaking the Silence”, “Intimacy”, “Promises” and the limited edition of “Eighties Live” were re-released and remastered. All are available digitally, and “Intimacy” has been released on CD for the first time.

On October 26, during the 10th International Festival of Music Producers Soundedit, The Opposition will open for Morcheeba at Wytwórnia Club. Soundedit Festival will host a true legend, a group that performed in Poland over 25 years ago!

The Opposition’s only concert this year in our country will take place on October 26, 2018 (Friday) at Wytwórnia Club (ul. Łąkowa 29).
